Master Book’s approach to homeschooling is eclectic. We are eclectic homeschoolers who lean a little toward Charlotte Mason, and so does Master Books! They have combined all of the best learning approaches and adapted them to a solid Bible-based homeschool curriculum. As a homeschool mom working part-time from home, our homeschool routine must mesh with my work schedule. However, I will not sacrifice my child’s education either. Biblical Foundation: Master Books is quickly becoming one of my favorite Bible-based homeschool curriculum choices. I mentioned previously that I like integrating God and the Bible into our homeschool days, and no subject is off-limits for us. Master Books’ strong Biblical foundation aligns with our Christian homeschooling values. Each quarter includes five stories and two picture studies—one biblically based—as well as two poems, one of which is a proverb. All these elements are thoughtfully curated to reinforce the Gospel theme. I should add it’s not dull or dry, and my boys love the days we read from 101 Favorite Stories of the Bible. One day a week, we read a Bible story from 101 Favorite Stories of the Bible, accompanied by scripture copywork and memorization. Effortless Teaching: Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 5 offers a convenient open-and-go format and simplifies the process of teaching elementary language arts. Quick story time – I can laugh about it now, but I recall my struggles with a well-known homeschool grammar curriculum a decade or more ago; teaching it felt like torture due to its complexity. I frequently found myself having to look things up because it was so confusing. Luckily, Master Books is a homeschool mom’s ally—everything is straightforward and clear, making it virtually foolproof!
A Typical Week with Master Books Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 5
Here is a quick run-down of how simple our week is using Master Books for Language Arts.
We received two texts with the Language Lessons for a Living Education 5 Set: the Master Books Language Lessons for a Living Education Level 5 workbook and 101 Favorite Stories of the Bible. We use only those. (The same is true for Level 4, too.)
We follow the same general weekly schedule:
- Day 1: Focus on a short story, explore a poem, and conduct a picture study alongside reflecting on selected Bible verses.
- Day 2 & 3: Concentrate on writing topics such as grammar and punctuation.
- Day 4: Read from 101 Favorite Stories of the Bible, engage in scripture copywork, and practice memorization.
- Day 5: Create your own dictionary, with an emphasis on spelling and vocabulary.
Typically, we aim to keep our homeschool routine to four days a week. During these weeks, I often merge two days of activities into one. Even when we combine days, each lesson still lasts no more than about half an hour.
You can also incorporate cursive into your homeschool language arts routine! We have been using this elementary cursive curriculum from Master Books that is also Bible-based, Catch on to Cursive, designed for grades 3rd through 6th.
